PRESS RELEASE

New Westminster, BC— January 23, 2023 — Today, CG Masters School of 3D Animation & VFX announces its plan to close the beloved school as of January 31, 2023, due to the impact of COVID-19 on enrollment.

“Despite a surge in demand for 3D artists in BC, ultimately, the effects of COVID-19 on international student enrollment impacted our ability to continue operating the school,” said Vickie Boughen, Co-Founder & Campus Director at CG Masters School of 3D Animation & VFX.

Graduates have flourished

In ten years of business, the school generated 28 successful cohorts of students with alumni working in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, London, and Wellington, New Zealand, for animation and visual effects studios as well as product development and games. Alumni have been part of Academy Awards and Emmy Award-winning projects and have gone on to Lead Artist positions in their selected industries.

“We have had over 110 students complete the program, and we know they have the necessary skills to succeed and grow in their careers,” said Nick Boughen, Co-Founder and Director of Education at CG Masters School. “With award season in progress, we know some of our alumni have contributed to nominated projects, and we celebrate their continued growth and successes.”

Impact of COVID-19 on International Students

With the reduction of international students studying in Canada, the school has seen declining enrollment despite efforts to adapt and serve a domestic student population. Adjustments to the school’s business model and increased recruitment efforts haven’t been able to increase enrollment to a sustainable level. The school has made the very hard decision to close the school.

Working with advisors and the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, a plan is in place to manage current student transfers per the Private Training Act and associated regulations.
